Payroll Analyst


Functions as lead and subject matter expert of payroll systems. Enters, corrects, verifies, and transmits payroll information. Assists with the timely completion of the payroll deadlines.

  • Functions as the lead subject matter expert and troubleshoots any Payroll system related issues.  Tests upgrades, resolves employee reporting issues, and prepares system enhancements specs.

  • Prepares payroll input to computerized payroll system and assists with preparing payroll checks.

  • Inputs and verifies payroll source documents to appropriate system.  This includes Invoices, deduction authorizations and any other data entry documents.

  • Prepares, runs queries, and distributes payroll reports as needed using available reporting tools.

  • Researches and responds to phone calls pertaining to payroll systems (i.e.time reporting, expense processing, etc…), payroll issues, or phone calls relating to system complications and reporting structure issues.  Follows up with employees to ensure satisfaction of service within prescribed time in adherence to departmental standards.

  • Acts as back-up to Customer Service Rep(s) by screening incoming payroll telephone calls to determine employee needs and to facilitate timely and appropriate services and responses.

  • Coordinates printing of payments and year end documents. 

  • Distributes mail and other documents to payroll staff as needed.  Prepares payroll documents to be mailed.

  • Acts as a payroll liaison to VNSNY staff, departments, programs and vendors to trouble shoot problems and ensure that a high level of customer service is maintained.

  • Ensures high level of compliance and meeting of sevice level agreements (SLA’s) of payroll department.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.


Education:    High school diploma or the equivalent required.  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.

Experience:  Minimum of three years of payroll experience required. Proficient with personal computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel required.  Experience with PeopleSoft program preferred.  Effective oral/written communication and strong analytical skills required.
