  • VNSNY's Mission is to improve the health and well-being of people through high-quality, cost effective healthcare in the home and community.
  • We value the role our home care nurses play in serving the community with their depth of knowledge, experience, and passion for making a difference in the lives of their patients.
  • "By providing care right where someone lives, home care nurses help aging or homebound individuals stay rooted and engaged in their communities and live a safe and independent life for many years—avoiding the isolation and dependency that can develop in a nursing home. Whether it’s a voice on the phone or a knock on the door, nurses know that home is where most people feel safe and connected to their community."

  • "As nurses, the skilled interventions we’re trained to do are the part of the job we can control. We can’t regulate people’s behavior, though. One of the biggest issues is getting patients to fully understand the part they need to play in their own care. Knowing how important it is to encourage such “health literacy” inspires me to be patient, compassionate—and persistent. Our VNSNY training teaches cultural sensitivity, which is helpful, but at the end of the day nurses also need to be clever psychologists to understand patients’ obstacles to compliance and self-care. How you talk to patients is just as important as what you say. Even as we’re educating, which is a huge part of the job, we need to be motivational as well. "

    Staten Island Region
  • "My job is always evolving! There is always something new—it keeps me on my toes. I first got into home care nursing because of the flexible schedule that would accommodate my taking my kids to school in the morning. I still love working in the home setting because I get to spend one-on-one time with my patients and their families without the stress of a hospital setting. I try to make life as easy for my patients as I can."
